Hand-adjusted louvre roof
An aluminium louvre pergola you open and close with a crank handle. The most affordable opening roof of the three.
- Crank-adjustable louvres
- Hidden drainage through the posts
- Wind rated up to 134km/h
We supply and install louvre pergola roofs in Halswell and across south-west Christchurch, with our own crew from the first site visit to sign-off. Established sections with mature gardens, newer Aidanfield sections and decks that already need a roof: we quote each one on site and give you a written price.
Every Halswell install uses one of our three louvre systems, picked to suit the span, the exposure and how you want to run the roof.

Remote and app control
Motorised louvres run from a remote or your phone, with LED lighting around the roof. Suits mid-size spans.
Biggest spans, highest wind zones
Motorised system for the biggest spans and the highest wind zones, with LED downlights in every rafter.
Halswell is two kinds of section. The established streets, built through the 70s, 80s and 90s, have big sections, mature plantings and outdoor areas that have barely changed since the house went up. Aidanfield and the newer subdivisions to the south have smaller sections and newer homes, and owners adding covered space while the area is still filling in around them.
A louvre pergola suits both. On a large established section it turns the part of the garden you already use into a room that works in any weather. On a smaller Aidanfield section it adds cover without giving up more lawn than it has to.
Older streets often come with mature gardens and narrow side gates, so we check how materials and machinery reach the back before we quote, not after. We also install in neighbouring Westmorland, Wigram and Hornby.
Get a Free Halswell QuoteHalswell sections don't all sit the same. Older streets have mature trees and tall hedges that break the wind and throw shade. Where a section backs onto open ground, there is less to stop the nor'wester and more afternoon sun.
The louvre pergola handles both because the roof moves. Angle the blades to cut glare, open them fully on a still morning, close them for rain. What changes from one Halswell section to the next is where the posts go and which of our three systems suits the exposure. We settle that on the site visit by looking at the section, not from a brochure.
Established trees add a different job, which is leaf litter in the gutters. We plan the drainage run knowing what is overhead.
Established Halswell homes often have a deck, or a bare patio, that has barely changed since the house was built, and it is usually the best spot for a roof. Before we quote, we check what is underneath. If the framing is sound, the pergola goes on as it is. If a section needs strengthening, we sort that in the same job. We build decks as well as louvres, so it is one crew, one quote and one set of joins that line up.
On newer Aidanfield sections there is often no deck yet. That is the easier job. We build the deck and the pergola together, with the posts and framing planned as one, rather than cutting into a finished deck later. Our deck builder in Halswell page covers the deck side.
Ask About a Halswell PergolaSix stages from the first site visit to sign-off, the same on a large Halswell section as on a compact Aidanfield one. The full detail is on our louvre pergola page.
We come to your Halswell property, walk the space and measure the area. We talk through how you use it, what time of day you want it for, and whether the pergola attaches to the house or stands free. We also check how access works to the back of the section.
We take you through Manual, Motorised Light and Motorised Heavy based on span, exposure and how you want to operate the roof. You get an itemised written quote, so you can see where each line lands.
We confirm whether your build needs a building consent, and we handle the paperwork when it does. Once the measurements are confirmed on site, your system is ordered to size.
Posts and beams go in for the span, set on the footings the site calls for. Electrical rough-in for the motor and lighting is done before the roof goes on.
The frame is lifted into place and the blades are installed and levelled. Gutters and downpipes are fitted and run to a sensible outfall.
The motor is commissioned, and the remote or app paired and tested. You get the manufacturer warranty documents and a walk-through on the day. The ten-year structural guarantee starts at sign-off.

Straight answers to what Halswell homeowners ask before booking a site visit.
It depends on where the sun lands on the spot you use. North-facing areas get the most sun, and west-facing areas get the hot afternoon sun. Louvre blades can be angled to cut glare while still letting light through, so we start from where you sit and when, then position the pergola around that. At the site visit we look at how the sun moves across your section before we recommend a position.
Usually, yes. We note where the trees sit against the proposed footprint, and we plan the gutters and downpipes knowing leaves will land on the roof. If a tree is going to cause you trouble every autumn, we say so on the site visit and talk through the options. We will not suggest removing anything just to make the quote simpler.
We check the framing under the deck before we quote. If it is sound, the roof goes on as it is. If it is not, we strengthen or rebuild the affected section as part of the same job, because we build decks ourselves. You get one quote covering the lot, not a roof price now and a deck bill later.
Yes. The roof is sized to the area you want covered, not to the section. On a smaller section we keep the footprint over the part you already use, and plan the posts so they do not cut into walkways or the lawn you have left. We talk through size and position on the site visit.
Not when it is set up properly. Open the blades and the light comes through, close them for shade or rain. We position the pergola with the rooms beside it in mind, so you are not swapping a bright living area for covered outdoor space. If we think a position will darken a room, we say so at the site visit.
Know where you want the pergola, how you use the space, and whether you want it attached to the house or free-standing. A rough budget helps, and so do any plans or photos of the house. We measure up on the day, check access to the back of the section and talk through the three systems. The visit is free and you get a written quote after it.
